Cavnic is a ski resort in Maramureș, close to Mogoșa and Șuior. Due to the fact that there are a high number of days with snow in this area, the town has recently been transformed into a holiday destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

There are 2 main ski areas (Icoana and Roata), which include 7 slopes (Icoana 1, Icoana 2, Roata 1, Roata 2, Rainer 1, Rainer 2 and Blue Slope) spread on a surface of 8.5km. The lengths of the slopes vary between 800 and 2.200m, while the gradients, situated between 14 and 37 degrees, make them suitable for both beginner and advanced skiers.

The medium-level slopes from Icoana ski area, Icoana 1 and Icoana 2, have a length of 700 and 750m and are equipped with ski lift. Icoana 1 also boasts with a night lighting installation. Skiers will also find here a slope for beginners equipped with baby lift, two snow-tubing trails and a slope for sledges. The slopes are situated at the exit from Cavnic in the direction of Ocna Sugatag.

At Roata ski area, situated 6km away from the centre of the town, there is one easy-level slope, Roata 2, which has a length of 1.030m and ski lift. Roata 1 and the Blue Slope are both medium-level and are equipped with ski lift, but while the former is shorter (920m) and benefits from night lighting installation and snow canon, the latter runs on 2.250m. Rainer 1 and 2 slopes (also known as Roata 3 and 4), are designed for professional skiers.
