First mentioned in a historical document dating from 1353, the town of Borșa is one of the main mountain resorts in Maramureș. Situated 125km east of Baia Mare, in a beautiful mountainous area, the resort attracts numerous mountain sports enthusiasts.
Tourism in the area is very developed, especially in the winter, due to the facilities for practicing winter sports. There are three ski slopes with varying degrees of difficulty: 2 slopes for expert skiers (Telescaun and Pătrat) and one for beginners (Pârtia Proștilor).
In the summer we recommend hiking in Rodnei Mountains, which can be reached by the chairlift. The main sights are the Horses’ Waterfall (Cascada Cailor), Pietrosul Rodnei Reserve and Iezer Lake. Other important attractions in the area include the Wooden Churches of Maramureș.
